"Yeah, uh, Patches (Karamazov)... are you sure that this is completely necessary?"

Fyodor Karamazov is the Inquisition’s Patches O’Houlihan. Seriously watch Dodgeball and then read about Karamazov and see the similarities. They are both: in chairs, incredibly judgmental, cranky, they suffer no fools, they give no pity, frighten their peers as well as opponents, are remorseless, and will put their own in harm’s way to get the job done or prove a point. However, I don’t think  Fyodor drinks his own urine because it is “sterile and he likes the taste.”

"If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge an orbital strike!"
Inquisitor Karamazov is bitterly opposed to change. He believes that the Emperor's plan for mankind must be left to unfold as He had planned and without the intervention of anyone else. He is a harsh judge, jury and executioner. It is said he tolerates no pleas of innocence. He is the go to witch and heretic burner for the Ordo Hereticus.
The Throne of Judgment is built off a Dreadnought chassis. It was a gift to Karamazov when he attained his rank of Lord Inquisitor within the Ordo Hereticus. It holds himself, a multi-melta servitor and a scribe. Originally used for a bit of pageantry, it is now sort of Karamazov’s “thing.” He rides/drives it everywhere and does all of his important work while upon it.

Karamazov has a pretty impressive stat line for a human. Granted this is due to the Throne he rides. He has a BS 4, WS 4, strength and toughness 5, 4 wounds and initiative, 3 attacks, leadership 10 and a 2+ save. He is armed with the Throne o’ Judgment, duh, a master crafted multi-melta, master crafted power sword, frag, krak, psyk-out, and rad grenades and an orbital strike relay. He is an Independent Character with Relentless, Dread Reputation and By Any Means Necessary rules.
Throne of Judgment- gives Karamazov his stats and 2+ save. It is also so big that he cannot be placed in a transport.
Dread Reputation- lets Karamazov choose to pass or fail any morale or pinning test.  Also friendly units within 12” of him may re-roll any failed morale or pinning tests.
By Any Means Necessary- lets him fire his orbital relay without scatter. It just has to be centered over a friendly model. Then it will not scatter. He can even place the template over a friendly model that is in combat. How awesome is that?!?

I like this guy. I think he would be a nice addition or secondary HQ to a Grey Knight force. His pure toughness 5, master crafted weapons, relentless rule and an orbital relay are great. Think about a non-scattering Lance Strike. Even better, this is a Heavy 1 not Ordnance, so he can move and still fire that weapon. Sure you might kill one or more of your own guys. It might be worth it. Then there is the Barrage Bomb with its D3 large blasts. Heck you can even drop that on fellow Grey Knights as it is AP 4, still risky, but you’ll get a save. It might be worth it as well, say if a squad of Knights is tied up with stubborn Guardsmen or an Ork mob. A single or up to three S 6, AP 4 non-scattering large blasts might help.
He is also not a monstrous creature, so he can get a cover save fairly easily. There is none of that ½ the model covered crap. A squad of infantry in front of him will do the trick. He also allows a Henchman Warband and those guys are pretty boss. There is also that re-rolling to hit multi-melta that he can walk and fire as well.
He also has rad grenades which make his melee potential that much better. Who doesn’t like to hit Astartes with a re-roll to hit (only one but better than none) strength 5 power weapon while also taking them down to toughness 3 for a turn?
Yea, I like the idea of Karamazov as a secondary HQ or for larger point games. I am also hoping that they port him over to the Sisters codex. He seems to fit that army exposition better than Grey Knights. I doubt they will, but him leading righteous gun and flame wielding nuns seems like a proper fit.

  1. Lol, I'll never be able to look at Karamazov the same again. "This is Patches O'Karamazov saying, 'Take care of your Baals, and they'll take care of you.'" Wasn't he originally from the previous Witch Hunters 'dex? Seems like a nice kick in the pants to veteran SoB players if GW doesn't include him in a future Sisters book.

  2. Yeah he was in the previous sisters book and was a good fit, but a weird unit. Now he is a pretty good unit, but a weird fit with the Grey Knights.
If he is not a cut and paste to Sisters I would be disappointed.

I love me some Dodgeball! Rip Torn was awesome in that....as well as in Beastmaster!
