The next "big" name HQ, or the guy with a great He-Man villian name.

Grand Master Mordrak (see great He-Man name) was the only survivor of the Fortress world of Mortain when it was destroyed by the Red Corsairs. Yup here we go again with I'm the last man standing bit, see also Bro Captain Stern.

On the world of Ralindri Mordrak would be separated from his Battle-Brothers by a teleporter malfunction. He was thrown into the mix of a demon incursion. He fights the good fight and gets hobbled in the process. Then like 40 terminators show up to clean house and save him, Terminators with heraldry of fallen troopers from Mortain. When he is found the terminators are gone and all the demons have been banished. Weird?

Well eventually these mystery Terminators, who keep showing up to help Mordrak, are the spirits of the fallen from Mortain. These ghosts are bound to him for some reason, probably revenge. They appear and help with the fight and to protect Mordrak.

I guess Mordrak looks like this?

Well Mordrak is a Grand Master, so he comes with all the Grey Knight stuff and the Grand Master abilities. He has a better than average Marine hero/ HQ statline: WS 6, BS 6, strength, toughness, attacks and wounds of 4, initiative 5, leadership 10 and a 2+/4++ save. He comes with Terminator armor, iron halo, and master crafted demon hammer. He is a one man unit. He also has the First to the Fray and Ghostly Bodyguard rules. He only costs a double century in points, which isn't to far off from a regular Grand Master HQ choice.

First to the Fray- allows Mordrak to deploy via deep strike 1st turn. He auto-arrives and will not scatter. That is not too shabby. It also works when he is attached to a unit of Ghost Knights
OOOOOO! So Scary! A Ghost Knight has appeared to help Mordrak!

Ghost Knights
They can be bought for 40 points and have a squad size of 1-5. They form a unit along with Mordrak. They are Grey Knight Terminators, have all the standard gear, abilities and the Stealth rule. They can swap out their Nemesis swords to get hammers/ halberds for free, or falchions for +5 points a pop. They can also have one guy carry a Brotherhood Banner for +25 points.

As they are bought, they form a unit with Mordrak. He acts as an upgrade in the unit, until all the Ghost Knights are dead, well dead again. Then he reverts back to his one man gang status. This can be a great option as an upgrade cannot be singled out in close combat, like an Independent Character. I can give him some safety in close combat, but it makes him look like a scared beyotch!

Ghostly Bodyguard- is the special rule for the Ghost Knights and Mordrak. At the end of a phase if Mordrak has taken a wound, roll a D3. If that number is greater than (or equal to) his remaining wounds then a Ghost Knight appears to help. It is placed in coherency with Mordrak (with the usual 1" away from enemy  or base contact if in close combat and blah blah blah). They come with standard gear and cannot be given other weapons. These newly appeared Knights can take Mordrak's unit over the 5 man maximum. When Mordrak dies these guys disappear as well.

Well Mordrak is the second of the "I have a troubled past due to demons" HQ. Sadly, he isn't the last either. He does have a bit of use with the Grand Strategy that all Grand Masters have. His first turn no scatter deep strike can also be useful for disruption or some weird tactics. He is a bit vulnerable outside of his ghostly body guard, especially with melta being so prevalent. However, if you buy him a bodyguard he should be fairly safe. Sure that drives him up to the 300-400 point range, but it does ensure some safety.

The chance to add more ghosts to him is also neat. Sure it is not guaranteed, but the odds favor it the when he drops to two or one wound. I wouldn't pass on a free Grey Knight Terminator that just pops into coherency with Mordrak.

Still I think he is another "fun" HQ. He does have the Grand Master stuff, but not the extra Grand Master gear to purchase (tricksie grenades). He is also very pricey when you start adding ghosts to form a squad. You'll probably need at least two just to play a minor bit of wound allocation. That takes him over Abaddon, Calgar and Grimnar points-wise and he is nowhere near that level of  super duper. Well where does that leave Mordrak? Well it leaves him sitting on Titan with Stern and discussing how to get on the tabletop. That is probably where.
