Gen Con week..........

Gen Con Indy 2015 will be here in just a few more days.

This year I go as a blank. There is nothing I am truly wanting to try or buy. It is both a sad and refreshing feeling.

After looking  over my vices, it is strange to not have anything I am in dire need of purchasing.

Of course that doesn’t mean that I’ll come home empty handed. At the least I’ll come home with some nerdy t-shirt, I always do.

Perhaps I can try to get a demo of Infinity in to see how it is really played?

If Privateer Press has The Undercity to play I might try that. Maybe? I think the cost of the game is a bit steep though. Besides that, unless they are releasing the new Hordes book, I don’t see any purchases from them.

Flying Frog has nothing new for The Last Night on Earth games.

Maybe there will be some new or rando board game to peak my interest?

At the bare minimum there will at least be a ton of stuff to gawk at.

Even with nothing on my game radar, I am still getting all a twitter as the week progresses.

We are going Friday (with the gribblies) and Saturday (adults only) this year. If you see a bald guy with glasses, a sweet pair of Chuck Taylor's, and backpack with some pins then say “Hey.” It  might be me…or one of a few hundred other people.

If you live in the quasi-barren wasteland of the American mid-West ,and are any type of geek, then get over to Indianapolis this weekend! There really is no real excuse for not attending at least one day out of the four. You really are doing yourself a disservice in not going once in your life.

Dirty coal burning Menoth vs.Carbon reducing Circle druids

After a recent trouncing at Infinity I got to throw down with some Hordes vs. Warmachine.

My puny force of Circle Orboros beasts were looking to square off against the coal burning fire belching air polluters that are Protectorate of Menoth.

This was a battle box-ish size game as we have Rob who is relatively new and is just getting a collection going.
He would be fielding: Kreoss, a Vassal, a Revenger (spear guy), Repenter (flamethrower guy) and a Reckoner (heavy gun and fire beat stick).

I had my go to force: Kaya, Feral Warpwolf and Argus x3.

We really didn’t know what the other guy did. I knew that I would be facing fire with fire and some more fire.

What happened wasn’t a game, but a bit of a travesty of events.

Rick and Morty this Sunday!

The new season of Rick and Morty starts on Adult Swim Sunday night. The best thing they have done since Venture Brothers and Metalocalypse.

A smattering of some of my favorite clips to follow!

Long live my Chucks!

I love my Chucks and damn it they are getting the over haul now too. Especially in the price department!

Chuck Taylor Redesign-clicky

Well I know they were saved over 12 years ago, financially, but now they are getting a reboot.
Do they need it? Nope. Why now after all this time? Why ruin perfection? How do you justify a $15 cost increase? Will I finally have to find a new shoe? Do I need to start hoarding these?

Damn it!

Infinity a second go round

I was treated to another Infinity game again. This time I played the blue dudes!

How did I fare?

Well after another look we were probably doing the whole shooting dice rolls wrong. Oh well. This time we did  it right?

Well? How did it go?

Ant-Man review

Well here I am looking at Ant-Man. Through the comic book years I was never a fan of Hank Pym. I always thought: Ant-Man, Giant Man and Yellow Jacket were lame. Now I know he was a founding Avenger and there are fan boys out there that feel he should have been in the movies sooner. This guy did not. I was perfectly fine leaving him, his science and propensity for slapping his woman around, out of the Marvel movies. Well that was not the case and now there is an Ant-Man movie.

If I dislike the character then why see it?

Well first it isn’t Hank Pym it is Scott Lang in the suit.
Second, it is a Marvel movie, they haven’t let me down yet.

Ant-Man opens with a bit of past Marvel universe world building. Hank Pym is not willing to turn over his special “Pym Particles” (they make shrinking and growing happen)  to S.H.I E.L.D. We then jump ahead to the present and meet Scott Lang a “good” criminal. He has ex-wife/new husband problems, wants to see his daughter and can’t get a job. This of course leads him to do one more job breaking into a house to crack a safe. This lead s him to nab the Ant-Man suit.

There is a bit of a jump over to Pym Tech, Hank’s company where he has a dude, Darren Cross, trying to recreate his “Pym Particles.” You know it is the typical quasi-evil scientist looking for the secret for glory of verbal or monetary reward. Low and behold Hank’s daughter, Hope, is also working for Darren Cross, but is she really? Yeah there is this whole father/daughter issue running through the movie that is eventually explained. If you can’t see the how and why of it before then, well shame on you.

Jump back to Scott Lang eventually joining up with Hank Pym to become Ant-man. Why? Well Darren Cross has plans to make mini bug men soldiers who get to wear a sweet yellow bug like mech suits….called…Yellow Jackets. We then get the obligatory montage, discoveries, ant wrangling and rounding out the Ant-Man origin story. The training is not for some final battle, but for a heist. Ant-Man and his insect brethren are set to break into Pym Tech and steal/destroy what Darren Cross created. Which of course leads to a final show down between Ant-man and Yellow Jacket.

Just a quick run through of Ant-Man. As always, there is a lot more going on here than what I covered.

Well they keep trying.

Teaser for some new 40K game that may or may not come to fruition.
Space marine on the PS3 was fun, but was a one and done.
What is this going to be? Hell if anyone knows, but man does he look miffed!

Warmachine Reckoning- My thoughts

I have finally punched through the new Warmachine Reckoning book.

The continuing plot for all the shenanigans in Imoren is what it is. The events continue to unfold after Vengeance. We have the post Thornwood battle fallout. An alliance forms of Khador and Cygnar to fight Cryx. The Cephalyx and Cryx continue working together. Eventually there is this trifold team of Cygnar, Khador and Menoth working to get those pesky Cryxians out of the area. The Khador stuff in the Cephalyx tunnels continues. Skorne seems to have a good foothold in Ios. The Convergence are sitting on the sidelines doing nothing during this. Why? Well because they are the odd ball force and get no releases this go around. Take that Imoren Necrons!

The story is what it is. It is equal part fan boy fluff, good, terrible and a way to get the new models into the story/game.

Ian!!! plays Infinity

A  special treat for me last week. I got to try the miniature game Infinity.  All five of the little scenarios in the Nomad vs. Pan Ocean starter set.

I was the red guys!

All I knew about infinity was that it was a mini game, it looked sci-fi, high tech, with a lot of anime stuff (Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Armitage and stuff along those lines)and had smaller and still detailed models.

A quick run through the rules. Hmmm…..a D20 system where you roll under or over a certain number (depending on the task) to succeed. Multiple “orders” that can be given to your force. Said “orders” that are based on the number of guys in your force. A lot of terrain. Supposedly a combat system that is brutal and unforgiving. We start the five game starter set.

After about 2 ½ hours we were through all five scenarios. Holt crap snacks! This game is as unforgiving, a bit unpredictable and seems to move pretty fast.
With five games in I only came out ahead twice. That being said I had one other game damn near in the bag, and then in one turn it all fell apart. The other two games I was given a pants down spanking.

By the gods don't ruin this!

The best thing I've seen from the Comic Con footage so far !

I know this is too far out still.
I want this to be so good after the last three films that were made.
This video really gives me hope.
Don't botch this J.J.

New Privateer stuff

Straight from Reckoning comes the Soul Trappers.
Creepy looking. CHECK
Souls- CHECK
Added to army- CHECK

A closer look at new Kromac. Holy crap he looks awesome!
Maybe I have found my second Circle caster?

Where did he come from?
New pig guy from nowhere!

Dude is really wyrd looking.
Good luck keeping him from falling off that plastic flying base thingy.

I'm no fan of the crazy zealot faction from Warmachine (well all the fire they have aside).
Yet this new warcaster looks pretty bad ass!

Still have no idea what is going on here.
They look all pink and stupid.

Weekly schlock and more 80's

If Goonies was never made would Monster Squad have been a bigger hit?

The Monster Squad - Poster

Another film from my tumultuous past The Monster Squad. This film is centered around a group of pre-teens that have a little tree house where they discuss their love of monster movies, books, comic, breakfast cereals that have anything to do with monsters. They are called…The Monster Squad and it is all fairly harmless. Well that is until Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, Wolfman and Gillman/Man-phibian/Creature from Black Lagoon, who are all very real, arrive in town. Why are they in town? Well see there is this magic amulet that can open a portal to destroy the world. This portal opens every 100 years and of course that is happening soon.  Well that is if the Monster Squad along with help for the diary of the monster hunter Van Helsing and scary German guy, don’t stop them first!

Summer distraction

The summer is 1/3rd of the way complete. I have not touched a paintbrush in well over a month. I have models almost complete and a few more in the pip ready to go. Why?

I guess it is a terminal case of summer time crap. I have the various parts of the yard to build and shape to make it a glorious haven for nature’s creatures. I have my weekend work schedule ramping up this coming month due to various vacations. My nightly downtime has me returning to the Capital Wastelands.

Fallout 3. Yup that is the real crux of this problem. Well that  and E3 footage of Fallout 4. After seeing that I had a hankerin’ to go kill some radscorpions, shoot some super mutants inhale a steady stream of Jet and set those ghouls bothering Tenpenny on fire! By the beard of Zeus I missed this game!
