I opted for the previous metal model instead of the new plasti-resin version. This metal version has a great look of angry and ready to just lose it on someone or something.
This guy means business!

Another Hordes game

Having yet to learn his lesson Madrak continues to encroach with his smelly troll beasts. He continues to wander the forest in search of fortune and glory, or was it pie?
We proxy some new guys, Heroscape models will be a Pyre Troll and a Gorax.

I had never heard a peep about this game, but now I'll be looking for it in the future.
Hopefully it will not disappoint like so many games do.

Well January is in wane and the hobbit Desolation of Smaug is out of the mind of many people.  

Yet here I am wondering something. Where is Smaug?

 

The Games Workshop people have made every other model from the first two films and even this mess.

End of the Chaos Marine codex review

This ends my look at the Chaos Marine codex. I have to say it is a real mixed bag.

The artwork is not awful, but not great. There is also a lot of artwork from previous Chaos codices. The recycled artwork makes me sad. The new drawings are a push. For every good pic there is a poor pic. I guess the upside is that it is still better than all the artwork in the Chaos Demons codex and the continued drek of John Blanche.

First new troll warbeast for the cause

The first of the trolls I gifted my lady friend for X-mas is the Pyre Troll.

These are original painted sort of a dull dirty terracotta or wyrdie brown. I chose to go a different direction.

These are trolls that are on fire, made of fire, eat fire, etc. Why not go all Fantastic Four on this guy? I was thinking Human Torch style.

To what have I been listening?

Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael and Jason Mantzoukas have a little pod cast where they discuss movies. The movies discussed fall into two categories: complete unwatchable drek and crazy bonkers awesome! 

How Did This Get Made? is their little show and it is a damn good time. They spend about an hour, along with  some other guest, discussing films that are mostly just garbage. They hit the big ones: Batman and Robin, Battlefield Earth, Ferris Bueller's Godzilla,Wild Wild West and  a lot of Nick Cage stuff to name a few. They also touch on the films I refer to as good/bad like: Crank 2, Roadhouse, Demoltion Man and the Fast franchise to name a few.

This podcast is good for a laugh, especially if you have seen the movies they are talking about. I do find it a bit less fun when they are covering a film I have not seen, or ever will.  I love me some bad movies and so does this pod cast. Plus I get Raffi (Jason Mantzoukas's character on The League) reviewing films and how great is that? Very! 

Another great online listen for those afternoons gaming and painting.

Chaos review #30

He is the big bad villain of the 40K universe. His name inspires fear throughout the galaxy. He has assaulted the Imperium thirteen separate times, and failed each and every one. Wait? What? He is the only person to fail ruinous and quick to punish failure Chaos pantheon thirteen times. How is that possible? Well because he is Abaddon the Despoiler and it is fine for him to not win, so says the powers that be!

When it comes to bad guys Abaddon is it. Abaddon having made it through the Heresy now launches multiple Black Crusades into the Imperium to do stuff. Sure he kills, robs a bank, steals a few cars, grabs some babies’ candy and then lights flaming bags of poo on doorsteps in the name of Chaos. Yet, he still can never achieve big victories. Why? Well the G.W. people don’t want him to that is why. This is a rant for another day about advancing the game timeline and such. Until then, Abaddon will always fail and never be punished by those crazy vengeful gods that turn people to boot licking spawn at the first hint of failure.

Betrayer review

The next Horus Heresy book to be finished is Betrayer. This is written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden and I was pretty jazzed to read it since he has yet to disappoint.

This is a follow up to the events of First Heretic and Know No Fear. It makes for a great bookend to a Word Bearers semi-trilogy. Here we have Lorgar and the Word Bearers along with Angron and the World Eaters assaulting the Ultramar system. They are doing everything they can to keep the Ultramarines occupied. This will help Horus when he assaults Terra. It is known that Robert Gulliman and the XIII legion are pretty bad ass and they could really hamper (if not stop) a traitor legion assault against Earth, I mean Terra.

Chaos review #29

When a Astartes hero falls from grace most just seem to fail. Sure they start out rough and tough, then they get rolled by a few random Marines, or the Inquisition shows up to shut them down. However, there is one traitor who just won't stay down, although with the damage he has taken one would think he would be long dead. He is ugly, mostly machine, has various nicknames, a creepy pet and is either a tactical genius or completely nuts. I'm talking about The Tyrant of Badab, Black Heart, the Blood Reaver or Lugft Huron.

Post holiday blitz

 Now that 2014 is here I can stop for a minute and look at all the events of the last week. The biggest was X-mas day.

Of all the gifts I received this year, this has to be my favorite.
