1st scary,but not intentional, film

My first non scary scary movie.
This movie is a two hour nightmare of frightfully bad elements.

Battlefield Earth
With a tagline like that, how could it suck?

Here we have Earth    years after it has been taken over by aliens from the planet Psyklo. These giant humanoid aliens are on Earth to strip the planet of valuable resources. They seem to have killed and/or enslaved most of humanity. Humans have become quasi-primitive again. They exist in tribes that are hunter gatherers and are all about the spears, bows, and animal hides.

The gist of the movie is about how John Travolta and Forrest Whitaker can double cross each other and their bosses. They love them some gold and need humans to mine it for them. They grab a noble savage and fill his brain with knowledge so that he can train other humans to mine, smelt, fly and it seems do everything else. This leads to the humans forming a plan to rid Earth of the aliens once and for all. How? Well they are going to rebel and then send a bomb back to the planet Psyklo to destroy it.

So…..we have advanced aliens that over came the armies and weapons of the planet. They will then be overthrown by near savages. Savages that have, in a week, found and learned to use ancient military weapons. See they fine pristine fighter jets and learn to fly them in no time. Then they use these and various other guns that are of course in great shape, to fight the advanced alien race.

The idea and concept is bad, but to see it in practice is worse. Then add to this some of the worst acting, like Nicolas Cage level bad, and dialogue. It is just awful stuff. Also we have aliens that stopped the military only to be beaten by the same weapons, but now in hands of savages instead of trained soldiers. What? The cliche of advanced technology enemy falls to weaker armed force appears again. Then throw in the horrendously bad costumes and this movie goes from terrible to horribly scary bad.

This is just unwatchable tripe, and yet I have sat through it. Why? Well it was touted as awful, but I did not think it could be as bad as people were saying. It is not just that, it is worse! Thankfully I saw this in my home on cable and not in the theater.

It may not have a slasher, monsters or the walking dead; it does have just nightmarish bad elements. I would actually be afraid of anyone who is fan of this film. They cannot be right in the head and support a scary, but not intentional, film.
