Dark Knight Rises

Everyone and their sister has a in depth review of this movie. I'll hit my high points and all that.

A quick rundown of the events………….It has been eight years since the events of the last film. Gotham is like 99% crime free somehow. Batman is “retired” and crippled up as well. All is super in Gotham and then Bane shows up to finish the events of the first film. Then some stuff happens to all the involved parties. There is also a “twist” or an attempt at one (if you know Batman stuff or just watched the animated series, you can guess this ahead of time). Oh yeah, there is a female cat burglar in the movie too.

The stand out positive for me is getting to see another iconic comic book moment come to life. If you know the Bat-universe you know what should happen in this movie. Seeing this “event” happen was pretty damn awesome! It rates with the first time I saw Superman fly, Wolverine pop his claws, Hulk go into a destructive rage, Thor spinning his hammer before bashing the crap out of something, witty and angry Joker/Batman banter, Dr. Manhattan’s* blue wang….wait…ummm…..never mind. You all get the point.  This comic moment made real did not disappoint, and we should all know what it is and that it is coming.
The action stuff was good, but nothing that stands out as super awesome!
It was also great to see Lt. Dangle, Owen Harper, and Teal'c get some screen time in a major Hollywood movie.
The only real negatives I had were small. The inclusion of non-cat Catwoman is the first problem. I am also not a huge Catwoman fan anyway so her being there was a mild irritation for me. She was not needed at all and she didn’t offer much to the story. She was basically in a very Robin-esqe role. The only upsides are that she was not as lame as Robin and her fanny (American not British fanny) looked good in some spandex/vinyl or whatever it is. Still she could have been cut out and the movie really wouldn’t have lost anything.

Mee-ow?
Me-yes?
Me-no?
Me-meh!

The second is minor and it involves Bane. His accent was just a bit too funny. I’m not sure what they were going for, but all I kept hearing was a mash-up of Baron Werner Ünderbheit and Sean Connery. It wasn’t a bad thing, but it brought a few moments of humor to a non humorous film.

 ADD  THESE TWO VOICES TOGETHER...

                                                            ....GET BANE'S VOICE

"I'm necessary evil" or..."Say hello to goodbye Dr. Venture!"

All that aside, this is a good film. It is better than Batman Begins, but nowhere near as good as the Dark Knight. The action sequences are descent, the acting is what it is, much like all the previous Bat movies. It will not disappoint as long as you like the other two films in the franchise. It makes for a descent conclusion to this little trilogy of Bat films. A solid action/comic film that is worth a view!
