Godzilla review!

Well the giant radioactive monster movie has been seen and for my money, it did not disappoint! If this is where the Godzilla franchise is going in the U.S. then I will happily support it.

This is more than just a giant monster fighting stuff movie. It is also has all the fun disaster movie bits thrown in there too.

Ok, so the story goes, that in 1999 a cave-in uncovers a giant skeleton of some creature. There as some wyrd spores there too. OH NO! A spore thing hatches and makes its way to a nuclear power plant where Walter White and wife work. Said plant is destroyed and then we jump ahead to now. Anothr spore is found and people are messing with it. Guess what....it hatches and we have a sort of cicada like monster wrecking stuff and munching on nuclear amterail. Well this causes all hell to break loose.

We then learn that there is a second creature out and about. It was the reason the government did all those A-bomb tests back in the 50's. See they were trying to kill a giant lizard monster in the pacific, not just test bombs. Well, now this guy, called Godzilla by the Japanese, is all about coming to squishy this bug monster. Why? Well beacuse Godzilla is this ultimate alpha predator and he is looking to throw down to restore the natural balance. He is like the Highlander in that aspect. There can be only one and he is out to make sure that happens!

This starts the chain of events that makes this both a kaiju and disaster movie at the same time. We get city wide destruction, islands washed away, miltiary shenanigans, panic in the streets and then creature throwdown! It is a great mix and balance of the two. I thought it was a great mix of these two types of film. If there is too much of one of the other, then it would have been a much different film.

The action is a bit of a slow build but that just made it better when it actually is shown. The monsters are shown in brief glimses, through windows, cameras and television footage for a lot of the film. It probably drove many people crazy. I loved it. It gave it a Jaws like feel. You get a bit of monster here and there to keep your anticipation level high. When the beasties are finally revealed, then it only makes it that much more awesome!

Godzilla looks great! This is not a guy in a suit, but it is a great rendition of what it looks like. The girth, spine, stubby arms, mouth/snout, and those yellow eyes all look like the original Godzilla suits; but with a more realistic look. He looks like he could exist and moves like it too! This is a very good CGI rendering.

The action between the big monsters is just great stuff. The combat is brutal and so very destructive! It did not disappoint! There are momnets that had me all a twitter with joy as big beasties wrecked face. I even had an actual vocal cheer-like outburst during one of the combat scenes. Why? Well it was just pure awesomesauce!

This is exactly what you would expect for a Godzilla movie. If you want something else then why are you seeing this? if you want destruction and giant monsters, then this is up your alley. A great addition to the Godzilla library and hopefully a start to a great U.S. Godzilla franchise!
