Real life interlude

Rob Zombie returned to my neck of the woods again this year. Last year Alice Cooper was there and this time Marilyn Mason tagged along.

There was also somebody doing DJ type things that went on first. He was fraking horrible and spun some terrible racket that he thought was pleasant. I'm all for a DJ remixing and such, but whomever this was was drunk, high or dying if they thought it was good. Rumors in the bathroom line was it was some guy from Slipknot, which if true, would explain the suckage.

I'll also say I am and have never been a real Marilyn Manson fan. I have always been Sweden when it comes to him. I did enjoy all the cool rumors about him back in the day, especially the one about him being Paul form the Wonder Years t.v. show!

Anyhoo, he came on played songs I had heard and a couple of  new songs I was told. Manders is a fan and knew. He wasn't terrible and his cover of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" was very awesome. Plus it gave me a reason to quote the Monarch.

I'll say he is much tamer than the old days that had parents and associated groups protesting and wanting him burned at the stake. I had no real idea what to expect and wasn't displeased or offended after his performance. I can add him to the list of bands I never thought I'd see and have.
His "Jesus Frankenstein" opening ensemble

Then after a 40 minute wait for a drink and a urinal I made it back just as Rob Zombie was about to start, like 12 seconds to spare. Opening with Jesus Frankenstein and running the gambit of songs to end with Dragula was awesomesauce! A second time seeing him and he did not disappoint! Now people were a bit bummedd that he played a similar set last year at this show, but I was not. I loved his set last year and just as much this year! I mean how does one hate a show where the band plays nothing but songs you love? He also changed up his multi-media and fire show so it was different and yet similar. There was a Charles Manson and family homage during Meet the Creeper, a lot of anime boobs and quasi-tentacle porn during Never Gonna Stop, Ultraman stuff during More Human Than Human and various clips from House o' 1000 Corpses along with several other movies. He even had a mini-Truck-a-saurus that he rode around on during Mars NeedsWomen. If only it shot fire.........

During the guitar solo Mr. Zombie did a tour of the stadium crowd along with several burly members of security. He actually walked in the section and row we were sitting in and that was kind of cool. I was 18" , of sweaty burly security guard forearm, away from Rob Zombie! It was fraking awesome! Now if only I had some sort of photo image taking device on me at the time.

Another good showing from Mr. Zombie and his musical band of miscreants. If there was a downside he could have played longer, but most bands I like always get that from me. I know that if he shows up around here again next fall, I'll be there again to see him!
