"We should have shotguns for this kind of deal."

Claw 4 is where the Terik's Night lords place the newest recruits. They are the responsibility of Brother Sergeant Solen. These marines serve as outriders, ambushers, and cover operations. They often arrive long before the main force an work to disable supply lines, communication, and general disruption among the enemy. If they survive the trials, tests and missions they will be fully indoctrinated into the Night Lords.
Almost the Dirty Dozen

vet. sarge of the squad
My squad sergeant with a hand flamer and bolter strapped to his back. This is to convey a combi-flamer.
Used a few non-scout heads to add some flavor to this squad. Since they are all shotgun armed I added most of their knives to their backs as just another part of their kit. Scouts need big knives, they just do.

"Out'a shells, but still have these!"
An old Space Wolf head re-tasked as a scout. Also cut his bolt pistol off to add an extra knife. The trigger guard melds in well with the hilt. Once he is flocked I'll add some spent casings around his feet/ gun.

Shotguns and mowhawks? Are those Goliath gangers turned scout?
The mowhawker on the left is my first attempt at stubble via wash. It might not win any awards, but it works for me and at tabletop range. These are the wolf scout heads and are fairly beefy, but i also like the look of the mowhawk (having a bit of one once myself) on marines.

Threw in a few different skin tones to make it look like these guys didn't all come from the same place. I went with the guy below mostly to see how skull-ish face paint would look. I think i like it, it isn't perfect, but I was going for a dude painting his own face, not some makeup artist doing it for him. I think it works and might have to put it on a few more guys.
There is one in every group............FACEPAINTER!
So why scouts? They are fairly uncommon on the field of play. I am really hoping to use them as disruption, early/ late objective grabber (if infiltrate or outflank), or to hit soft targets. I went with shotguns for the look mainly, the amount of shots second and they are assault weapons last. The sarge has a combi-flamer to throw that template down as well.  The hope is for a nice salvo of S4 shots and flamer. Then mop-up or tie up the rest (if get Black Rage cool or Sang. Priest nearby). Are these guys world beaters? Hell no! They are made for infiltrating in, coming off a board edge to harass, grab or contest stuff. hell they could even be a sacrificial speed bump. In the end the dice will decide their ultimate fate, as always.

I also like them for the theme of the army. Night Lords use a lot of terror tactics and scouts would be great for sneaky slash and burn/ seek and destroy type missions. They are also there for the idea that Chaos marines must come from somewhere. There were either billions of marines turned by the ruinous powers or they make/recruit like they used to before they fell. I chose the latter. These guys are the newly recruited and implanted soon to be Night Lords.
