Avengers: Infinity War

After the 10 year build up to get Thanos and his shiny gauntlet on the big screen was it worth the wait?

Yes!
By the gods yes it was!

I don’t want to say too much about the film since there is some definite spoiler territory for the comic book uninformed.

Plot
Thanos and his Black Order, Cull Obsidian, Children of, are coming for the Infinity Stones. He knows there are two stones on Earth, one on Xandar, one with the Collector and one on Asgard. All he has to do is gather them up by destroying everything and one in his path to do it. It is up to the Avengers both the original team and the people who split off from them, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Spider-Man and Dr. Strange to stop Thanos and the potential universal destruction he could cause with a fully loaded Infinity Gauntlet.

The various little team-ups played off each other so well

Action
Way too much to expound upon without ruining the film. The last hour of the film is all action and it is amazing! Some of the best stuff they have done in the franchise to date!

Comedy
There are comedy hits like we all expect and they are needed in this movie. Without a subtle in-joke, word play like we have in all Marvel movies this would have just been way to dark, heavy and would have really been hard to watch. You know like most DC universe films as of late.

A Thor, Rocket and Groot movie would be amazing!

Comic Book Moxy
There is a ton of it in this film. If you have read the original Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity War and Infinity comic book runs there are some great scenes that translate to film so awesomely! The original Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War series really don’t hold-up well. Sure they were great then, but now they haven’t aged really well. Sad to say that, but it is true. This film does a fantastic job of pulling the best stuff from those stories and making it work so well on the big screen.

From throwing moons at people or just being the best dad he knows how to be...Thanos was everything I wanted in a villain.
He was a perfect mix of powerful, evil and even had a bit of a soft likeable side.
It took ten years, but his arrival was worth the wait!

Downside
After two viewings the only issue I have so far is the post credit scene. We are used to the teaser/stinger after Marvel films. Here it was just pretty weak compared to everything that had just happened minutes before.

The “surprise” cameo that occurs was a bit of a head scratcher for me and still is. I have no idea the why behind this person appearing besides a “Hey I know him. He was that guy!” moment in the film. It didn’t really add anything besides that.

We have to wait a full year for the sequel.

These are the only issues I had with the movie, and they are puny quibbles.

II would love to gush and chatter about Avengers: Infinity War for longer. However, there are moments and events that I don’t want to ruin for the sad sacs who have yet to go see it. The Russo Brothers did another amazing job with comic book characters and their tribulations. Infinity War is 2 and a half hours of pure comic book enjoyment!
