Back from vacation!

Shooo! Get out of her Nyan Cat!
Now with that bit of business over with.....

The family trucked out to the Black Hills of South Dakota last week.
Here are just a few pics of awesome nature and hiking locals.

This was an great scramble up a quarter mile or more of loose wet rocks.
We loved it...wife hated it.

It was totally worth it to make it to the caves at the top.

Had a great view of Spearfish Canyon from the top too.

Look kids Mount Rushmore.
Big piece of art, but not too exciting.
You can totally see it from the drive there and I would do that if you are near.

Now Crazy Horse was really cool.
Great Native American museum and history there.

What it will look like one day......

A small cave/ mine tunnel off the trail...

....no goblins or kobolds as far as I could see.
Didn't have enough light to delve deeper though.

More up at the 76 Trail.
A bit greulling as you gain 1000 feet of elevation real quick at the end of what begins as a simple 3/4 mile hike.
Well a bit greulling for flat-landers like us with such a quick elevation change.

Great views of Spearfish Canyon and the surrounding area from the top though.

An old cattle rustler hideout built into the side of a cliff that we stopped at during a 30 mile horseback trip.

A cool little hideout and it even included the bullet holes in the front wall where they were taken down.

The view from the hideout. A sweet field and stream shot and where they would hold the cows until they rebranded them and marched them off to be sold.

Here we are approaching Cathedral Spires in Custer State Park.
Really loved this hike with all the rock formations and various scenery.
A very cool non-fantasy but very fantasy location.

Slyvan Lake would have been just beautiful....but there were too many tourists there.
Man people are the worst!

A long drive, but totally worth it for the nature there.
I'll stop with the pics now, but they are just a smattering of the rocky beauty out there.
