Now to see what has changed with all my units and memorize new rules.

MKIII starter box battle!

Well I proxied the starter Circle Orboros box (just used Kaya for Tanith and a Wold for the Gorax) and faced off against the Cygnar starter box.

Needless to say it was a myriad of low points for me. Firstly I hit only thrice all game and that was with a boosted spray attack from my Pureblood Warpwolf and one hit from my Gorax that failed to penetrate the ARM of a ARM buffed Lancer. Even better is that boosted damage from the Warpwolf spray attack only did a total of 4 and 3 points of damage to the two warjacks it hit.


The rest of the game I never rolled better than a 12 to hit. That is 12 total after rolling 2 (or sometimes 3D6) and then adding it to the appropriate stat.

It was a disgusting dice night to say the least. At least it brought comedy to the game. Seriously no better higher than an 12 for every attack sans three of them.

I had a sweet assassination run on Major what’s her name girl Cygnar caster with my ghostly Warpwolf. I charged right through the terrain in front of her and promptly missed with all my attacks. I then popped feat to channel spells through the Warpwolf and missed those spell attacks as well.
 

I then gave up. My Gorax was crushed. I missed my assassination chance. I was facing down three warjacks that were basically undamaged. I was fine with that. I walked Tanith out in front of the Ironclad and layed down.


I had baited him to get the ghost walk assassination run and completely missed the rolls. Plus, I was just so tired of rolling poorly that I wanted the game to just end.

Three hit rolls all game over 12. Take that math/stat nerds!

Uncharted 4 review or...

…..A.K.A. Tomb Raider 4, but with a guy.

I was told this game was awesome.  I was highly dubious. Still a dude at work let me borrow his copy, actually he handed it to me and said play this.

Now I have played zero Uncharted # Drake’s (insert word here) games. All I knew it was third person , about a treasure hunter, has adventure, knows people and is basically male Tomb Raider.

My initial assessment was not wrong.

Nathan Drake has made it through three previous games and has built up a reputation for doing adventure stuff. He has made friends and gotten married. He has a dead/not dead brother. He loves him some treasure hunting too. That is what I knew after playing this game for an hour or so.

My assessment is still spot on. I was still playing male Laura Croft.

How is the game though?

It was  actually pretty damn fun!

Primal MKIII quick rules read through

Alright so here is my take on the MKIII rules.

I’m probably late to the party on this, but whatever. The new Primal and Prime rules are a free pdf download from Privateer. Yeah you can start playing with these free rules. How awesome? Very!

Why bother buying the big rulebook then? I have no idea at this time.

Well you can start playing when you get all the updated faction cards. That may be awhile depending on store, interweb and supply/demand.

Anyway a few quick glances and one descent read through and what have we got? Well the same damn game with very minor tweaks. Seriously what did you people think? They were not going to ditch a tight rule set for something new. It is still roll 2D6 and add it to a set value to determine everything.

The changes made were to make the game a bit more mainstream, easier, a bit of initial balancing (until all the unit info is out then the power combos will appear) and dump a few problem/useless rules.

Couldn't agree more with this guy.

Weekly schlock and Hayek

I forgot that I had written this. Oops. A few months back I watched Everly, a delightful little action film.

Let us discuss.

Everly (played by a still hot Selma Hayek) is the name of a prostitute that is working for a yakuza boss named Taiko. One night she has just had it and decides to murderize the crap out of the mobsters in her apartment that have, I guess, been giving her the “business.” This beings a series of battles between Everly and multiple waves of goons trying to kill her. There is also the bit about her working with the authorities to bring down the mob, you know that old chestnut. At the same time Everly is also desperately trying to save her daughter ( and her mother sort of) from the wrath of the evil Yakuza boss Taiko. All done during one night and within a single room apartment.

Ugh! Warcraft review.

Best video game movie ever! Is a phrase you can use for the Warcraft movie. At the same time that puts this movie in contention with: Super Mario Bros., Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tomb Raider, House of the Dead, Doom, Silent Hill, Max Payne, Hitman, Prince of Persia, Resident Evil series, and gods know how many more I have forgotten to list. They are all universally panned and terrible. So saying this is the best video game movie ever, has no weight or merit behind it.

If video game movies are giant pile of shite. Then Warcraft is the best smelling turd in the pile.

Alright Warcraft. The film based off the real time strategy game that lead to the online RPG. Yeah this not a World of Warcraft movie. This is Warcraft movie that is laying the foundation for a World of Warcraft movie.

The orc homeworld, Draenor, is dying and they need a new place to live. Along comes Gul’ Dan, an evil orc warlock, who opens a portal to the happy shiny world of Azeroth. Here the orcs look to quickly conquer the inhabitants and then re-open a portal to bring all their buddies through to live fight and breed. Well that is unless a plucky band of humans, well really three guys, can find and stop them from doing this.

That is the gist of the plot. Pretty simple right. Well yes and no.

Quick book report

Yarrick: Imperial Creed- Diving back into the 40K pool again with an early story about the toughest human in the 41^st millennium Commissar Sebastian Yarrick. This is a tale of his fledging mission before he became an Armageddon beat-stick. Take a planet, throw in a chaos cult, an inquisitor and the Adeptus Sororitas and you get a standard 40K novel. 

If any bits really stood out it was that we get another Commissar that isn’t trigger happy like they describe and a squad of Sisters of Battle that I really wanted to be reading about instead.

In honor of the big Privateer event this weekend

Lock and load is this weekend. It will be the first (sort of) release of all the fun new rules and such for Warmachine and Hordes. I might pay attention a bit now since these will be leaks from the battle boxes and not people who “know.”

In honor of the weekend and a convention I would like to, but will never attend, I decided to get some painting done.

Weekly schlock and doctors gone awry

Alright.
Pathology. A movie that was on, so I watch it. I work in the medical field. I like the gooey dead stuff. I like science. I like horror. This movie has all of that stuff.

Right?!

Well yes and a resounding no as well.

We are introduced to one Dr. Ted Grey. He is the atypical movie doctor good guy. He is a Harvard grad. He is marrying a girl from a world of privilege. He is back from being a doctor for UNICEF or something like that. He is of the nation’s best and brightest. Blah. Blah. Blah.

Well he starts his new life working as a pathologist for some hospital in N.Y.C. there he meets a gang of other pathologists that feel like the goons from Karate Kid and the gang from the Lost Boys merged to form a super douche gang! Of course the goons dislike Dr. Ted and everyone else in their department. Well, that is until Dr. Ted impresses them with a bunch of fancy dead person diagnosing. Dr. Ted is then welcomed to drinks with the goons and their leader Dr. Gallo.

DOOM!

The original Doom was entertaining. The second Doom was just as fun if not more. I passed on the third version for greener pastures.

Now I have returned to play Doom once again.

Damn it all! It feels like I never left.

Well it looks like the U.A.C. (Union Aerospace Corp.) is at it again on their Mars facility. They are doing that whole bit where they access Hell to use the energies there for science stuff, energy problems on Earth and weaponized them for the military. Well it all goes sideways when one scientist, Olivia Pierce, decides to make a pact with the demons and opens a portal to Hell. This of course causes the facility to be over-run. The workers are all killed or possessed. The power of Hell is loose on Mars. I wonder how it will all be stopped?

Well thankfully while on one of the various Hell safaris they discovered a sarcophagus containing the “Hell Slayer.” The last guy to rampage through the dark realms who kicked whole sale demon ass. That is who you play a supped-up version of the guy from the original game, a not space marine, a not Master  Chief and yet all of these together. You have to fight your way to thorough and out of Hell to save the day.

That is a big rundown of the plot. I guess I could have said you are a dude who gets to shoot demon monsters from Hell through multiple levels of awesome!

Age o' Apoc - truth!

I wasn't the only X-Men fan with issues from Age o' Apocalypse.

If you have time to spare this is awesome!

She sums up so much that I had issue with from X-Men Age o' Apocalypse, and a lot of  the X-Men movie franchise.

Witcher 3 complete. Now what?

I finally sat down and forced myself to finish the Wither 3: The Wild Hunt.

Well that is a bit misleading. I forced myself to run the main story arc and win the game. I had to stop all the exploring, monster hunting, whoring and treasure hunting.

Holy crap snacks am I impressed with this game.  

D&D last week wrap-up

After a previously successful outing our intrepid band of warriors embarked on another adventure!

Deciding to leave their transmuting mage behind, Reginald the ½ orc barbarian and Ren the human monk took on the task of hunting down and stopping the villainous Battle Baron, his two lieutenants and his band of raiding goons, the Battle Brothers.

Yeah this was the Battle Baron!
I had the guys going after Warduke because he looks so damn awesome!

After finding a great lead from the local watering hole, The Red Pony (where every day is a continuous soiree ), they discovered four gang members still sleeping off the previous night’s drinking.

Age of Apocalypse review

After the teaser at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past with a nod to Apocalypse, I had some general interest in this movie. Then the pics and trailers started coming. I lost hope really quickly. After this weekend my thoughts were validated.

Age of Apocalypse……..

Quick aside. As a long time reader of the X-Men I have a lot of issues with these movies. The reach from glaring to nit-pickish. However, if you want a good Apocalypse story, then read The Age of Apocalypse from 1995. That X-Men arc was really fun and gives a look at to what Apocalypse would have done if he ran unchecked. What occurs in this film is neither Apocalypse or anything resembling an age of him.
