Fall of Damnos review

Chewed through the Space Marine Battle novel, The Fall of Damnos. Why did I choose this book? Well, it contains the Ultramarines fighting one of my favorite armies, the Necrons.

This is written by another Black Library unknown, well an unknown to me. That always makes me a bit apprehensive, but I gave it a go. I just never know when another good author might just pop-up and you have to read stuff to find them. Plus, it would be Necrotyr heavy and they might actually win the fight against those Ultramarine ponces.

Chaos review..the known Vehicles

I’ll hit all the known Chaos vehicles in one fell swoop. There has been no real change to the Chaos heavy slot when it comes to most vehicles. They are as they were in the last codex and are 99% identical to every other Space Marine vehicle. They all have the same armor, weapons, ballistic skill and hull points as their loyalist counterparts.

We all know this transport and its capabilities. The cost is the same as last edition and it comes armed with the standard flair. Ok, it has a combi-bolter instead of a storm bolter. The biggest change, and this goes for all vehicles, is the 6th edition rules. The humble Rhino is still the go to cheap-o transport we have grown to know and love. Well I guess we hate them now that the system has changed.

Defiance does it defy me?

Well, Syfy has a new show and I'm giving it my standard Three Episode rule. This is the ability of a show to pull me in, impress, make me consistently laugh, or surprise me in just three episodes. If they do then I generally stick around and support them. Sadly, many shows never make the third episode.

Now over the years the SciFi and Syfy network has given me many shows to try. I would say that 99% of them fail to hit the Three Episode rule. Battlestar, Farscape and Haven have passed the test. However, Battlestar ran it's wonderful course, Farscape was canned and Haven is now off my list of shows as it turned to crap pretty quickly into season two. This isn't to say that I haven't given many of the SciFi/SyFy shows a chance. They have just failed to entice me. I'm just particular when it comes to scifi/fantasy and it takes a lot to pull me in and very little to drive me away.

Chaos review...Elite #9

If it is an honor for Imperial Space Marines to be interred in a Dreadnought so they can fight on even after they should have died. What is it for Chaos? Is it an honor? Is it a punishment? Is it an upgrade?

The Hellbrute is the renaming of the classic Dreadnought. I guess Chaos had to be fancy and change the name for some reason. It is a vehicle of the walker variety and has the same statistics as every other plain Dreadnought: WS 4, BS 4, strength 6, initiative 4, 2 attacks, front armor 12, side armor 12 and rear armor 10. It follows all the vehicle rules for moving, shooting and assault. It also has the CRAZED! rule. This melding of man and machine comes armed with a multi-melta and a power fist (not a Dreadnought close combat weapon as in previous editions but does that matter….). The Dreadnought comes in cheaper than the good guy counter-parts at 105 points…..wait! An FAQ changed that and now it costs 5 points less than that.

A happy zombie suprise!

Last night I was told of an event I might want to attend. Max Brooks, the author of one of my favorite books, was doing a talk called “Talking Dead with Best Selling Author Max Brooks: Zombie Expert." and a book signing afterward.

Chaos review.. Vehicle Upgrades

Before I get to the first vehicle in the Chaos codex I should probably hit the upgrades vehicles can take. There are some known and usable by everyone. There are some that have been around for a codex or more now. Sadly, I don't really see any must have upgrades in this list, but some have useful value.

Happy belated birthday Sean Bean!

A happy belated birthday to my man crush, Sean Bean!
I honor of it I present the list of his memorable movie deaths!

One more candle on the cake

Another year and another year older now.

Had a nice quiet birthday this year. There was some adult beverages, meat, fantastic weather, zoo, double pie with a pie chaser, gifts, treated myself to a sweet new camera, Anchorman, the return of the Ice Warriors and a start to finish damn fine Thrones episode. It was a good weekend!

Fear to Tread review

This book jumped out me when I was perusing the local book depository. I had heard nothing about it and quickly grabbed the one copy they had. The Heresy stuff is finally getting back on track and they have been hitting the big stuff I want to read about.

This book covers the grand plan to keep the Blood Angels busy while Horus does his galaxy burning bit. Well there is more than just that, but it is the crux of the novel. The Blood Angels are doing there thing and killing some aliens and then those aliens pop-up in another system years later. Well they are told to go kill them off, after they thought they had. That leads them down a fun little road that Horus and his new Chaos buddies have prepared. What follows is a nice little journey through another part of the 40K universe staring some of my favorites.

The new Evil Dead

A quick bit of annoying business.....
I love the low budget goodness of the original Evil Dead and rebooted movies always seem to fail especially horror (Nightmare, Friday, Chainsaw, and Halloween remakes are all drek).
People out there ,outside of the "know", this is not a reboot of Evil Dead 2, the movie most people have heard of and hopefully have seen. Please stop the comparisons to both.
I am not a fan of the writing of Diablo Cody. I have watched two films that she wrote for and was not impressed. I thought Juno was just pretentious and insipid. I'll not even mention the other film as it was even worse.
I have never seen anything by this director before
Sam Rami and Bruce Campbell produced this film. Why reboot it though?
So, I was a bit apprehensive about going into this film.
What  was the outcome?

Chaos review..Elite #8

There is one unit in every marine codex that I really enjoy the aesthetic and story of, the Terminators! I have always liked the look of these guys. The PS1 game Vengeance of the Blood Angels, still warms a cockle of my heart. Then there was the original Space Hulk game and the PC version as well. Both of these were a good time and started my appreciation of Space Marines in Tactical Dreadnought armor.

Now Chaos has Terminator units like pretty much every other Marine codex. They share all the same statistics of regular Astartes Terminators; they just have a few differences in starting unit size and gear to separate them from the Imperial versions. The Chaos Terminator comes armed with a power weapon (of whatever variety) a combi-bolter and the ability to Deep Strike. Chaos Terminators start in a three man (one is designated a champion but he has the exact same stats as everyone else) squad for just five points under 100. They may add up to 7 more gents to the squad at a cost of 31 points each.

Really? This is a problem?

G.W. has been at a record pace with codex releases this edition and it is pretty damn impressive. What is not impressive is the amount of complaining I read about it.
Nyan cat and this argument have the same effect on me too!
Why is this new codex push bad? I think it is great!  If anything I am pissed because this is what I wanted back in the days of 4th and 5th. It might be possible to get every viable army (sorry Sisters but you suck and need a ton of help, as do you Black Templars) out there with a new codex during 6th edition. How awesome is that to have armies with current rules and books. No more of that 3rd edition book in 4th or early 4th edition book in 5th. I always thought getting a new edition out and updating all the armies was possible, it was just laziness or some defunct business model keeping it from happening.

April 1st ! Stay off the interwebs today!

This is an automated message.........

The time of year I hate the interweb, April 1st. It is upon us and there are probably all manner of gaming, comic, movie and nerd related stories out there.
Stay away people! Don’t be the ass to believe the new codex rumor, the pics of a new unit, stories of upcoming awesome books, the green lighting of a super cool film, etc.  Today this is all bullshit.
Don’t be the guy to believe and spread this crap today!
Rise above or just stay off the net today.
